چکیده

Whether spin-independent Coulomb interaction can be the origin of a realistic ferromag-netism in an itinerant electron system has been an open problem for a long time. Here we study a class of Hubbard models on decorated lattices, which have a special property that the corresponding single-electron Schrr odinger equation has N d-fold degenerate ground states. The degeneracy N d is proportional to the total number of sites jj. We prove that the ground states of the models exhibit ferromagnetism when the electron ll-ing factor is not more than and suuciently close to 0 = N d =(2 jj), and paramagnetism when the lling factor is suuciently small. An important feature of the present work is that it provides examples of three dimensional itinerant electron systems which are proved to exhibit ferromagnetism in a nite range of the electron lling factor.

Stability of Ferromagnetism in Hubbard models with degenerate single-particle ground states

A Hubbard model with a Nd-fold degenerate single-particle ground state has ferromagnetic ground states if the number of electrons is less or equal to Nd . It is shown rigorously that the local stability of ferromagnetism in such a model implies global stability: The model has only ferromagnetic ground states, if there are no single spin-flip ground states. If the number of electrons is equal to...

Ferromagnetism in single-band Hubbard models with a partially flat band

A Hubbard model with a single, partially flat band has ferromagnetic ground states. It is shown that local stability of ferromagnetism implies its global stability in such a model: The model has only ferromagnetic ground states if there are no single spin-flip ground states. Since a single-band Hubbard model away from half filling describes a metal, this result may open a route to metallic ferr...

Ferromagnetism in Hubbard models.

We present the first rigorous examples of non-singular Hubbard models which exhibit ferromagnetism at zero temperature. The models are defined in arbitrary dimensions, and are characterized by finite-ranged hoppings, dispersive bands, and finite on-site Coulomb interaction U . The picture, which goes back to Heisenberg, that sufficiently large Coulomb interaction can revert Pauli paramagnetism ...

Exact many-electron ground states on diamond and triangle Hubbard chains

We construct exact ground states of interacting electrons on triangle and diamond Hubbard chains. The construction requires (i) a rewriting of the Hamiltonian into positive semidefinite form, (ii) the construction of a many-electron ground state of this Hamiltonian, and (iii) the proof of the uniqueness of the ground state. This approach works in any dimension, requires no integrability of the ...

1 9 D ec 1 99 7 The Hubbard Model — Introduction and Selected Rigorous Results

The Hubbard model is a “highly oversimplified model” for electrons in a solid which interact with each other through extremely short ranged repulsive (Coulomb) interaction. The Hamiltonian of the Hubbard model consists of two pieces; Hhop which describes quantum mechanical hopping of electrons, and Hint which describes nonlinear repulsive interaction. Either Hhop or Hint alone is easy to analyz...
